ESTATES PROBATE

Estate settlement can be a difficult and exacting job. As an executor you have the important responsibility of winding up the affairs of the deceased and carrying out their final wishes as quickly and carefully as possible.

As of January 1st, 2013 the Ontario Ministry of Revenue will have increased audit and verification functions, meaning that the valuation of assets will be subject to far greater scrutiny. It will therefore be critical for executors to be diligent in obtaining and documenting proper and accurate valuations of the deceased’s property for purposes of calculating the Estate Administration Tax.

Documents that are filed with any revenue agency and/or the courts should be made by a professional accredited appraiser to ensure that the Fair Market Value of assets has been correctly ascertained. This will ensure that there is full documentation of objective and supportable valuation in case of reassessment of the Estate by the Ontario Ministry of Revenue.

Our appraisal values for personal property are what lawyers and accountants rely on when a value is required for personal property for estates, separation, divorce or other disputes. We provide appraisal reports that meet the requirements of the Canadian courts and various revenue agencies
Settling an estate generally means that an appraisal is needed to establish Fair Market Value for the personal property belonging to the deceased. In many cases the date of death has taken place well before the date that the appraisal is requested. We are experienced in ensuring that these “Retrospective Appraisals” have the estimated value of the property matching the date of death.

Give yourself the peace of mind that comes with ensuring that you have been provided with accurate verifiable proof of personal property values.
